The Bull Demon King (simplified Chinese: 牛魔王; traditional Chinese: 牛魔王; pinyin: Niú Mówáng), also known as King Taurus, is a prominent antagonist and powerful demon king in Chinese mythology and popular culture. He frequently appears in adaptations of the classic novel *Journey to the West*.
He is depicted as a formidable bull demon possessing immense strength, magical abilities, and mastery of martial arts. He is often portrayed as being physically imposing and wielding a large weapon, such as a mace or a pair of swords.
In *Journey to the West*, he's the sworn brother of Sun Wukong (the Monkey King) and part of a brotherhood of powerful demons. However, their relationship sours as Sun Wukong ascends to higher status and the Bull Demon King remains a demon. He is married to Princess Iron Fan and they have a son named Red Boy.
The Bull Demon King often opposes Sun Wukong on his journey westward, usually over disputes concerning Red Boy or other matters. Ultimately, he is typically defeated and subdued, sometimes joining the Buddhist pantheon or facing other forms of punishment.
